NEW CALEDONIA
PETAIN NOT RECOGNISED RELATIONS WITH AUSTRALIA (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tnl. Copyright) (Received August 7, 3.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, August 7 Mr J. McEwan, Minister of External Affairs, announced that the people of New Caledonia do not recognise the jurisdiction of the Petain Government. The Commonwealth Government has been able to reach a satisfactory arrangement with the local Administration of New Caledonia for the maintenance of economic relations.
