GREAT HAVOC

TERRIBLE CLOUDBURST SCOTTISH PORT STRUCK ALMOST WASHED AWAY (Official Wireless) (Received August 6, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Aug. 5 A cloudburst on July 26, news of which has just been released, nearly washed away the Scottish port of Cromarty, where it caused tremendous havoc and thousands of pounds worth of damage. No house or shop was undamaged. The cloudburst struck the town with a thunderlike noise. Hill burns, swollen to mighty torrents, swept through the streets, carrying everything before them. Four houses were demolished. One owner snatched a baby from a cradle and waded waist-deep through the swirling waters. Flowers, vegetables and furniture were swept down to the sea.
