BLEDISLOE CUP
AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY DOMINION COMPETITION AUCKLAND’S CLUB’S SUCCESS With 72 prints representing six clubs in the North and South Islands, this year’s Dominion inter-club photographic competition for the Bledisloe Cup was judged in Hamilton. With the work of many of New Zealand’s leading photographers to hand, the standard was exceptionally high. Entries were received from each of the four main centres and from the Waikato and Hawke’s Bay Camera Clubs. The Auckland Camera Club won the cup, with Wellington runners-up. The Waikato Camera Club, a comparatively new organisation, did well to gain fourth position. The champion of the collection was the work of Mr L. Kitching, a member of the Auckland Camera Club.
The results of the competition were as follows: Auckland, 1021 points, 1; Wellington, 1012 points, 2; Christchurch, 1009 points, 3; Waikato, 982 points, 4; Dunedin, 979 points, 5; Hawke’s Bay, 963 points, 6. It was the unanimous opinion of the judges, Messrs J. Treloar, H. E. Gaze and L. F. Fraser, that the competitive work in this year’s exhibition was quite equal in pictorial interest and general technique to that shown on any previous occasion, and possibly better. There were some excellent examples by the leading pictorialists from the main centres, supplemented by the younger clubs of Waikato and Hawke’s Bay.
