HOLIDAY JOYS
AID TO WELL-BEING GROUP TRAVEL SCHEME BENEFITS EXTOLLED (By Telegraph.—special to Times) WELLINGTON, Monday The advantages of a recreative holiday to any of the many scenic parts of the Dominion were emphasised by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, addressing a group travel party in Parliament House today. It would be a wonderful help, he said, in these nervy days, to the health of the community, particularly that of women, and would lead to a better understanding and appreciation by the people of the beautiful scenic parts of the Dominion if the country could afford to give all its people an annual holiday to any one of the chief resort:. Mr Parry expressed the belief that one of the best adjuncts to the physical welfare and recreation movement in New Zealand was a system under which groups of men and women from farms, offices, factories and stores could travel and enjoy at a cheap rate the lake, mountain and bush scenery of the country. First Holiday Trips The Minister said that since group travelling had commenced he had received many letters and from some of them it could be seen the writers had not ever before had a holiday in which train, bus and steamer travel and staying away from home were among the happy and exhilarating thrills enjoyed. “ I regret to say, but it is a fact, nevertheless,” Mr Parry added, “that there are hundreds of our adult men and women who have not ever been able to take a holiday away from home at one or other of our healthgiving resorts. The money so many of them are spending today in tonics and other nostrums would provide the cost of a group holiday trip.
When there is general realisation among the community of the benefits a holiday away from home can give, there will be a group travel party on every train and steamer setting out on a journey.”
