POOR WHEAT CROP

DRY WEATHER IN AUSTRALIA “PROSPECTS VERY BLUE” EFFECT ON LAMBS AND WOOL ; (United Pre«* Assn —Eler. Tel. Copyright) j MELBOURNE, August 4 The long spell of dry weather in the Victorian wheat areas has had a devastating effect on the crops. The Premier, Mr Dunstan, on his return from a tour of inspection, said that only a miracle can give Victoria a reasonable crop. “Prospects are very blue,” said Mr Dunstan. “I have not seen a really promising crop. They are just com- ] - ing up in patches, and those patches look miserable. A big area prepared for late cropping is not likely to be planted at all. “The dry weather is also likely to affect the lamb export and wool clip. Early lambs are stunted and may have to be carried as stores.”
