POSSIBLE SHORTAGE

ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY NEXT YEAR’S DEMAND The possibility of a shortage ot electric power next year was discussed at the monthly meeting of the Central Waikato Electric Power Board to-day when Mr J. Sampson asked for information on the matter The speaker said that he had heard that there would be a shortage in 1941. If that were :he case it would be wise to cut down consumption as much as possible. The engineer-manager, Mr J. R. Ellis, said it was not definite that there would be shortage; it was only a possibility. The whole thing depended on whether plant arrived from overseas in time to meet the increased demand. Two extra units, for installation at Arapuni, were on order from England to cope with next winter’s demand. It was decided to ask the Electric Power Boards Supply Association to approach the Public Works Department regarding the possible shortage and to ask what measures would be taken.
