HARD AND FAST

ANOTHER WIN FOR AOTEA Although Old Boys appeared a ikely winner in a hard and fast game with Aotea, the Technical team gingered up its attacks in the second half and finally won by four goals to two. All Aotea’s points were scored by Powdrill. The teams were:—Aotea: Puch, Bowler, Clark, Hinton, Jenkins, V. Sage, Fountain, Hoff. Powdrill. Judd, VV. Sage. Old Boys: Wattam, Broadbent, Pountney, Olive, Ross, Sutherland, Chard, Ewan, Wright, Dowell. Ewan gained a goal from a penalty bully early in the game to give Old Boys the initial advantage. Aotea pressed strongly on occasions, but solid defence kept the attacking forwards at bay. Wattam, Old Boys’ new goalie and ex-Auckland representative goalie, made several useful saves in face of hot attacks. Powdrill had a chance to make the score even when a penalty bully was ordered in Old Boys’ goal-mouth. Although the Technical forward beat Broadbent, his shot slewed across the goal. Powdrill made amends later, however, when in another penalty bully in the goal-mouth he beat his opponent tc send the ball hard and true into the net. Powdrill added to his laurels a few minutes later. Further Success Wattam kicked clear in the face A a frontal attack on the goal, but Aotea’s forwards did not let the ball go far and swept back to the attack, Powdrill snicking the ball into the net from close in. Aotea 2, Old Boys 1. Chard took the ball down the left flank and reached Aotea’s circle. Bowler held him up, but the Technical fullback was tackled in turn by Old Boys’ forwards. From the willing melee that followed in the goal-mouth, Ewan swung the ball into the net for a great goal. Old Boys 2, Aotea 2. Aotea launched a series of attacks, but Wattam in goal was kicking too accurately, while Pountney kept the attackers back with long clearing shots. Wright and Chard got the ball away down the flanks one occasion, but Bowler, who was playing a very reliable game in the fullback line for Aotea, blocked their attempts to penetrate further. Aotea’s forwards made a sortie into the circle, Powdrill capping it off with a good goal. Aotea 3, Old Boys A fast attack down the centre by Hoff, Powdrill and Judd brought Aotea to the circle. Wattam came ut to defend his goal, colliding with ,i Technical attacker when attempting to get the ball away. Powdrill took advantage of the position bv scoring another goal. Aotea 4, Old Boys 2. There was no further scoring before full time. Messrs Grade and McKinnon were the umpires.
