MORRINSVILLE FOOTBALL

FINDLAY CUP CHALLENGE WAIPA SIDE DEFEATED (Special to Times) MORRINSVILLE, Saturday In a hard forward game Morrinsville defeated the challengers, Waipa, by 14 points to 9 in a Findlay Cup match. In ideal football weather neither set of backs played good football, the attempts at passing rarely getting past the five-eighths. Both packs of forwards worked hard. The scrum work produced no advantage to either side, but Morrinsville, following hard and fast, won the game. Morrinsville’s first score was the result of a good dash by L. Chase, the halfback. Securing the ball from a scrum near Waipa’s line he made a great dive over the line. The second try was the result of good forward work from its twenty-five to Waipa’s line, O. Vowlers scoring. From a penalty J. Ensor kicked a good goal, bringing Morrinsville’s score to 9. In the second half A. Radovich scored near the posts after several Morrinsville forwards had handled the ball, J. Ensor converting. Waipa’s first score was the result of a good run by Reeves, the kick at goal failing. The other points came from penalty goals. Morrinsville was without the services of A J. Aitken.
