HIGH HONOUR

CONGRATULATIONS IN HOUSE ADDED RESPONSIBILITY (By Teiefrraoli.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday In the House of Representatives today the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton, made a brief statement in which he extended to the Prime Minister on behalf of the Opposition heartiest congratulations on Mr Fraser’s appointment as a Privy Councillor by His Majesty the King. This was high honour which had been conferred by His Majesty, and he felt sure the Prime Minister would fully appreciate it. He trusted Mr Fraser would enjoy the distinction and grace the honour for many year;. Mr Fraser thanked Mr Hamilton for his congratulations and good wishes. Naturally, he said, he appreciated the high honour and the confidence shown in making the appointment. The pleasure, great as it would be in ordinary circumstances, was not unmixed at the present moment because of the war situation and the situation of the British Government and the peoples of the British Commonwealth. The additional responsibility was great, because it made us feel we were part of the one British family, and that whatever happened in one part of the Empire affected us here. Mr Fraser expressed thanks for the help and support given him and the Government by all sections of the House in the critical period since September last. A fellow Privy Councillor, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, crossed the floor of the House and shook hands with Mr Fraser.
