The Rev. W. F. Stent has been appointed Government representative on the New Zealand Poultry Board, according to a Gazette notice. Mr R. T. Reid, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Beard, was in Hamilton last night and was at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs W. D. Barday, J. W. McLaren, W. Howie (Auckland) and W. Laws (Wellington) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Captain C. N. Devery, D.C.M., New Zealand Temporary Staff, has been appointed Assistant AdjutantGeneral, Central Military District, and promoted to the rank of major. Oil From Wrecked Vessel There is a thick coating of crude oil from the wrecked liner Niagara on the beach at Waipu. The deposit is three inches deep in places and 20 feet across. Banks of the tidal estuaries are covered with the oil and rocks are heavily coated. Here and there penguins, which drown when their wings become coated, lie dead in the oil. So large is the deposit that it seems certain that one of the fuel tanks burst in the explosion. Most of the deposit occurs near the motor camp.
