ROAD TRANSPORT
SUSPENDED SERVICES ROTORUA OPPOSITION (By Telegraph—Special to Times) ROTORUA, Wednesday Following the announcement by Mr E. J. Phelan, the No. 1 Transport Licensing Authority, that the Auckland-Rotorua road services would be curtailed, the Rotorua Borough Council decided tonight to make representations to the authority. All councillors were unanimous that at least the through service to Gisborne should be continued. The Mayor, Mr T. Jackson, stated that immediately the decision of the authority was known, he had telegraphed to Mr A. F. Moncur, M.P., asking whether the decision of the authority had the support of the Minister of Railways. GISBORNE DIFFICULTIES FEEDER SYSTEM UPSET (By Telegrapn.—special to Times) GISBORNE, Wednesday Resentment at the instruction of the No. 1 Licensing Authority that the Railway Department should discontinue all road motor services between Auckland and Rotorua is expressed in Gisborne by operators of services which link up with thv Rotorua service. The decision, it is stated, will throw out of gear the whole system of feeder transportation which has been built up over a period of years. Passengers proceeding from Gisborne or intermediate towns northward will still be able to connect with the train for Auckland, but on the southward journey the time-table between Rotorua and Gisborne will require to be altered, and it will entail late arrival in Gisborne. In the meantime, the same authority which has cancelled the northern link of the journey requires the southern link to be maintained on the exist-? ing schedule, which, in one direction at least, is largely valueless.
