BIG FACTORY PLANNED AUSTRALIAN ENTERPRISE A new explosives and filling plant which will employ thousands of men and women is to be built by the Commonwealth Parliament at a cost
of several million pounds. The site 1 of the new plant has not been decided. i The plant, which is pail; of the £50,000,000 programme being implemented under the control of the Director-General of Munitions, Mr Essington Lewis, will duplicate the activities of the Maribymong explosives and filling plant and the Deer Park annexe. The Department of Information
1 announced that Construction would begin as soon as a suitable site has l been chosen. The plant would be built near a large population centre in a State other than Victoria. In addition to explosives, the plant would manufacture cartridge cases, which would necessitate the installation of foundries and rolling mills for non-ferrous metals. At least 1000 acres would be needed to house the plant.
