NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED
ROAD FATALITY AIR FORCE ENGINEER CHARGED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday Pleading not guilty at the police court to a charge of negligently driving a motor car in Jervois Road in November last, thereby causing the death of Jack Woods, Reginald Gulliver, aged 20, an aero engineer, was today committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Gulliver, who appeared in the uniform of the Air Force, was represented by Mr T. Henry. Sub-inspec-tor Pender, prosecuted and Mr T. S. Withers, instructed by the commandant of the Air Force base, Hobsonville, watched the proceedings. Dr. Victor Usher gave evidence that a car collided with the trees in front of his house about 11 p.m. Witness heard the driver, after alighting calling out excitedly, “My cobber’s in there; get him out.” Witness opened the rear doors and helped to lift out a man who was injured on the head and he was placed in an ambulance. Witness saw no signs of liquor upon the driver or the injured man.
Replying to counsel, witness said there had been other fatal accidents at the same spot. Gulliver was allowed bail on his own recognisance of £IOO.
