TRIBUTE BY SHIPMATES
SAILOR KILLED ON ACHILLES SAILORS VISIT MOTHER Five Cambridge members of the crew of H.M.S. Achilles visited Mrs H. "Galley, of Ngongotaha, the mother of Able Seaman A. C. H. Shaw, who wcas killed in action during the battle of the River Plate against the German pocket-battleship Admiral Graf Spee. The journey was made this week by the sailors who were accompanied by several friends. The five Achilles men who went were Acting Petty Officer S. Keeley, Able Seamen A. Speight and W. Care, and Stokers M. Wallace and S. Lorimer. They were farewelied by the Mayor, Mr Edgai James, who regretted that he could not accept the invitation to make the trip. Mr James conveyed a message from Cambridge to Mr and Mrs Galley. During the visit a wreath which had been placed on the cen >taph at Cambridge by the Returned Soldiers’ Association was handed to Mrs Galley. After leaving Mrs Galley with whom they had lunch, the sailors visited Rotorua and were welcomed there by Mr L. Ewert, the DeputyMayor. Mr Ewert congratulated the boys on their wonderful effort, and said that Rotorua was proud to have them as visitors. He presented each sailor with an illustrated booklet showing scenic views of Rotorua.
