FAREWELL PARTY
MRS J. CARRUTHERS HONOURED A pleasant social gathering took place recently at the residence of Mrs Denis Montague, Turanga-o-moana, when Mesdames Montague and J. J. Ryan were hostesses at a farewell party in honour of Mrs J. Carruthers, who recently left the district to reside in Tauranga. The function took the form of a bridge afternoon and was much enjoyed. Mr J. G. Mackereth was the prizewinner with the highest score and Mrs B. C. Taylor held the hidden number. During the serving of afternoon tea, Mrs Ryan presented the guest-of-honour, as a token of the esteem in which she was held, with a beautiful crystal salad bowl. Mrs Carruthers suitably responded. Among those present were:—Mesdames G. G. Bell, D. N. Hay, S. C. Wills, C. E. Barry, A. H. Lambourne, J. G. Mackereth, H. E. Schofield, E. Maclntyre, L. H. Little, D. R. Abernethy, E. W. L. Mitchell, J. Price, G. Johnston, P. D. Tennent, R. Burke, B. C. Taylor and Miss Chadwick.
