SIX BRITISH WARSHIPS REQUEST FOR PROTEST NEUTRALITY YIOLATED (United rress Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) OSLO, Feb. 17 A Norwegian communique states: “ A Norwegian torpedo-boat was escorting the Altmarck in Norwegian territorial waters at 4.30 p.m. on Friday when one of two British destroyers fired a shot in order to try to halt the Altmarck and prevent her from entering Josing Fjord. “ Shortly afterward a British cruiser and five destroyers appeared inside the three-mile limit. One destroyer sailed close to the coast and used its searchlights. “ A British warship suddenly entered the fjord and removed a number of prisoners from the Altmarck, after which she sailed away. “ The Government has asked the Norwegian Legation in London seriously to protest against this violation of Norway’s neutrality.” An earlier message stated that Norway had protested to Britain, and was reported to be demanding the return of the Altmarck’s prisoners and full compensation. Another message from Oslan said the Altmarck apparently refused to submit to examination by Norwegian customs officials before the British warships entered the fjord
