OBITUARY
MISS E. B. M. BRAIN COMMERCIAL COLLEGE HEAD The death has occurred in Auckland of Miss E. B. M. Brain, a director of Brain's Commercial College, Limited, of Auckland, and sister of Mrs D. E. Duthoit, one of the principals of Brain’s Commercial College in Hamilton. Miss Brain was the fourth daughter of Captain W. Blanche Brain, of the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, and was bom in England. With her sister, then Miss M. G. E. Brain, she was engaged in commercial work in Auckland at the beginning of the Great War. In partnership with Mr A. J. Hutchinson and Mr H. C. Robinson. the sisters established in 1918 what is now known as Brain’s College. Mr Duthoit took the place of Mr Robinson on the latter's retirement a few years after the college was established in Auckland. Later, with his wife, Mr Duthoit established the college in Hamilton. Miss Brain was keenly interested in church and mission work. Bowls and Petrol As a result of the petrol restrictions. the annual match between the Auckland and South Auckland Bowling Centres for the Hardley Shield, which was to have been played at Auckland next Wednesday has had to be cancelled. The shield is at present held by the South Auckland Centre. New Swimming Pool The Olympic swimming pool, considered the finest of its kind ih New Zealand or Australia, constructed by the Newmarket Borough Council, was officially opened this afternoon by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry. He said the pool was the only one in the Dominion with water of sufficient depth for high diving up to Olympie standard. He understood the New Zealand amateur championships were tj he held therein next year.
