MATANGI NEWS

SUCCESSFUL DANCE The Matangi Hall was thronged with dancers on Wednesday evening, when a most delightful dance was held. Clayton’s orchestra supplied the music and extras were played by Mr W. Dingle. Mr J. Turner was master of ceremonies. A novelty dance was won by Mrs Smith, of New Plymouth, and Mr A Weir. Those present were:— Mesdames Turner, Burgundy satin; A. GIFT EVENING The Presbyterian Church Hall at Matangi was well filled recently, when Miss Mollie Davison and Mr Ron Baker, of Newstead, who were married today, were tendered a social gift evening by their many friends in Matangi. The following varied programme of musical items was much appreciated: Vocal solos, Miss June Maisie (Cambridge), Miss Elsie Shaw, Mr W. Wright and Mr Randal; pianoforte duet, Mrs C. L. French and Miss Mavis Shaw; humorous sketch, Misses Lucy and Lily Ringer. Mrs Randal and Miss M. Shaw played the accompaniments. At the conclusion of the programme the Rev. C. L. French, who presided, briefly spoke on the interest the guests-of-the-evening had taken in the work of the Church, and expressed gratification that their future home would be in the district. The Rev. G. E.Brown spoke on behalL of the Methodist connection. Miss Davison and Mr Baker then opened the large array of gift parcels, and were accorded musical honours. Mr Baker suitably replied.
