SHAKESPEARE PLAYS
PRODUCTION IN SYDNEY “THE MERCHANT OF VENICE” The cast is almost complete for the Minerva production of “The Merchant of Venice,” says Sydney Sun. Rehearsals are under way, but no production date is yet announced. Hilda Scurr, who started with Allan Wilkie, is to return to her old love as Portia, against Lloyd Lamble’s Shylock. Cecil Perry will appear as Bassanio and Charles Kilburn as Antonio. Other ex-Wilkie players, Gus Neville and Pat Scully are back on the job. Pearl Swieg and “Babs” Mayhew are other principals. Recent Minerva patrons have been asked to state their preference. “Merchant” was an easy winner, “Hamlet” next. Incidentally, look for an announcement from Mr Blackman soon regarding romantic musicals. He has been negotiating in London and New York.
