ine oaies xax. Although December sales tax figures are frequently the highest monthly total for the year, the trend has been reversed in the latest returns. Tax collected in December totalled £307,486, compared with £329,356 in December, 1938, and £311,047 in December, 1937. However, the December figure was exceeded six times in the past year, and the total for 1939 was £3,628,779, as against £3,498,438 in 1938.
