HIGHWAY PLANS
ROTOR CA-TAI'PO ROAD (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Thursday Plans for the continuation of tari sealing on the highway between j Rotorua and Taupo were mentioned I to-day by Mr M. H. Wynyard, the ! motorists’ representative on the Main i Highways Board. He said 14 miles of ! the road had been sealed from the ! Rotorua end, and it was expected that ! the section between Wairakei and I | Taupo would be completely sealed by | the end of the year. ; The board’s programme in the hot j lakes district, Mr Wynyard con- | tinued, was to prepare and seal as | great a mileage as possible each year, j Many important sections, including | six and a-half miles on the Rotom* j highway and eight miles on the j wera road, had been completed. The | programme for next year was still : under consideration, and subject to j finance being available, the claims of i the Rotorua-Taupo road would be
! given further consideration, j “It is the board’s intention to carry on progressively with the sealing until the whole length of the road has been done,” said Mr Wynyard. He I added that considerable work had | been completed southward from Pui taruru toward Taupo, owing to the
heavy and continuous timber traffic on that route. The work in that case had been partially subsidised by the Matamata County Council. _
