WAIKATO SOCIETY MEETS MEMBERSHIP REACHES 44 The Waikato Philatelic Society held its monthly meeting last evening, Dr. W. R. Fea presiding over 22 members. Notice of his resignation from the committee was received from Mr D. Penniket, who has gone into camp at Weraroa. It was unanimously decided to elect Mr Penniket an honorary member for the duration of the war, and to record the society’s appreciation of the work he had done. Dr. W. R. Fea kept his listeners* attention in his lecture on the first pictorial stamp; of New Zealand, which he illustrated by 60 pages taken from his own comprehensive collection. A competition on watermarks prepared by Mr Coates was won by Messrs Edsall and Cooke, who were equal on points. As Mr Edsall had won a previous first prize in the series the award was given to Mr Cooke, Mr Edsall being allotted the second prize. Three new members were elected, making a total of 44 to date. Supper was provided, after which a number of stamps changed hands at current prices. It was stated that the first two circuit books would be sent out next week, Mr Coates, the exchange superintendent, reporting good support for this branch of the society’s activities.
