NURSES’ CONFERENCE

MANY DELEGATES ATTEND In Wellington at the present time are nurses from all parts of New Zealand who have come as delegates from their respective branches to the annual general conference of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association. This conference had been first planned on a large scale with nurses coming from many countries overseas |— a special effort for New Zealand’s I Centennial—but owing to the outbreak of war it was deemed advisj able to cancel these arrangements in j favour of a business meeting. Distinguished Women Many distinguished women in the j nursing world will be present at this i gathering, including Miss C. Mc- ! Kenny, M.8.E., Dominion president; | Miss Mary Lambie, 0.8. E., Director ; of New Zealand Nursing Services; i Miss N. Fitzgibbon, Nursing Adviser to the Council of the Plunket Society; Miss Willis, A.R.R.C., Matron-in-chief of the New Zealand Army Nursing Service; and the matrons of many hospitals. The executive comprises: j —Mrs Knight, Auckland, Miss Mc--1 Kenny, Dominion president, Manawatu, Miss Mitchell, Hawke’s Bay, Miss Tennent, Wellington, Miss Buckley, Canterbury, Miss Fitzgib- | bon, Otago, Miss Clark, Dominion | secretary, and Miss McAndrew, asj sistant Dominion secretary. I A feature of special interest will be an address, “ An Historical Review of the New Zealand Registered Nurses’ Association and its Contribution to New Zealand Nursing,” by Miss Bieknell, late Director of Nursing and a founder member of the association. Delegates from the Student Nurses’ Association, which is the junior section of the association, have come from their respective hospital training schools, and many other members ( in addition to the registered and stud- ; ent delegates. MORRINSVILLE NEWS KITCHEN EVENING At the conclusion of the usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Morrinsville Lodge M.U.1.0.0.F., the members held a kitchen evening in honour of Mrs Gorringe, nee Miss Essie Thompson, who has been a popular and valued member of the i lodge for many years and who has passed through all the chairs. Brother C. C. Skett, who presided at the meeting, asked Mr and Mrs Gorringe to accept the large array of parcels and wished them happiness. Sister Gorringe was also presented with an easy chair from the lodge and a floral posy from the sisters. During the evening, Brother R. T. Scott, P.D.G.M., called on Sister Gorringe and Brother G. Gifford to accept a framed emblem. Sister Gorringe and Brother Gifford suitably replied. A bagpipe duo by Messrs G. White and A. R. M. Small was appreciated. CROQUET AFTERNOON A pleasant function was held at the Morrinsville Croquet Club, recently, when members held the annual social afternoon for the honorary members. The president, Mrs P. J. Cooper, welcomed the visitors and members. A delicious afternoon tea was served in the pavilion which was decorated with flowers in the club colours. Mrs Green thanked the members on behalf of the visitors and Mrs Cooper responded, expressing regret that the inclement weather had prevented more from attending. Several competitions were enjoyed, the winners being:—Crazy croquet, Mrs Russell 1, Mrs Darrell 2; golf croquet, Mrs Colson 1, Mrs Greene 2. Those present were:—Mesdames Greene, Darrell, Colson, Russell, P. J. Cooper, president, Ramsay, Doorty, Ford, Caitcheon, Patterson, Bennett, Johnstone, Donald, Gray, Anderson, Buchan, Gallichan.
