WEDDINGS

MacKENZIE—TURNER IVORY SATIN-BACKED TAFFETA A charming wedding was solemnised at St. Columba’s Catholic Church, Frankton, on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 3, when Sheila Mary, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F. A. Turner, of 46 King Street, Frankton, was married to Gordon Ronald, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. MacKenzie, Awanui Road, Kaitaia. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father O’Connor and the wedding music was played by Miss Mary Elliott. During the service an Ave Maria was sung by Miss Lucy Elliott. The church had been arranged with bowls of red and white gladioli. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a lovely gown of ivory satin-backed taffeta cut on classical lines. It was designed with a Peter Pan collar and long fitting sleeves tapering to points over the wrists. Tiny buttons trimmed the bodice down the back to the waistline, from where the skirt flowed into a graceful oval train, which was finished with a ruched horseshoe of satin. A coronet of miniature lilies arranged in halo effect held in place her beautiful veil of embroidered tulle. She wore a string of white mother-of-pearl rosary beads and she carried a bouquet of Christmas lilies and maidenhair fern. The Attendants The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Nora Turner, as bridesmaid, and by her niece, little Deirdre Turner, as flowergirl. The bridesmaid was wearing a frock of ivory taffeta cut on slim-fitting lines. A box-pleated frill edged with narrow satin ribbon ran from the neckline to the hem, which was finished with a wide band of stitching. The short puffed sleeves were similarly trimmed and the neck was encircled by a stitched collar. A large taffeta bow adorned the back of the frock. Her headdress was composed of a white net halo and tiny red flowers and she carried a bouquet of red gladioli and maidenhair fern. The flowergirl was in a white crepe-de-chine frock featuring a gathered skirt, short puffed sleeves and a rounded collar. Red taffeta leaves were worn around her head and she carried a posy of red carnations and maidenhair fern.

Mr F. MacKenzie, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and the ushers at the church were Mr W. Turner and Mr D. MacKenzie. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Centreway Rooms, which were artistically decorated with red and white gladioil and red dahlias. Mrs Turner received the guests wearing a navy and white ensemble and navy accessories. She carried a posy of carnations and fern to tone with the frock. The mother of the bridegroom was in a Burgundy frock, with toning accessories and a fur stole. Her posy was of toning carnations and maidenhair fern.
