TRAIN HITS JIGGER
SURFACEMEN INJURED COLLISION IN TUNNEL (By Telegraph.—Press Association) TAIHAPE, Thursday A collision between a goods train bound for Taihape and a railway jigger, on which a surfaceman, Mr W. J. Olsen, aged 22, of Taihape, was travelling, occurred in the Winiata tunnel, a mile south of Taihape, at 7.30 this morning. Mr Olsen received a minor leg injury, but is suffering severely from shock. The jigger was about half-way through the tunnel, which is 40 chains long, when the train appeared, and Mr Olsen just had time to jump off. The jigger was struck and considerably damaged by the engine.
