TE RAPA TRACKS

THIS MORNING’S ACTIVITY FEW HORSES SPRINT PLANS FOR GOLDEN SHEILA The extreme outside of the course proper was available for the little fast work attempted at Te Rapa this morning, the morning’s programme being restricted chiefly to sharp sprinting up the straight. Naturally, following further rain last evening the going was dead and cutting out somewhat, but the surface on the course proper, nevertheless, was in surprisingly good order under the circustancec. Among those to be galloped were Golden Sheila and Foxtoon, who ran six furlongs in 1.28, the Anal half-mile of their work being traversed in 60s. Both are bearing a healthy appearance, but it was stated by Mr P. A. Swney this morning that in the event of the going being heavy tomorrow there was every probability of Golden Sheila not fulfilling her engagement in the Storey Memorial Handicap. Volifox (Thomson) dashed home from the three furlong peg in 40s, hitting out well in the going. Lady Montana and White Rajah traversed a similar distance in 455. Kathbella and Yogi ran home from the five furlong peg in 1.15. Both are bearing a healthy appearance and should lack little on the score of condition for racing at the fixture. Riotous (J. Chaplin) and Mio Lume (J. Winder) finished practically on terms over the deciding stages of a round in 2.19. The prominent Hastings trainer, S. J. Reid, who arrived yesterday with Kathbella and Yogi, brought through with him to the meeting two apprentice riders, J. Campbell, who has been riding with success this season, and S. Paramore, a youngster who has also had experience in the saddle with colours up. PLANS FOR BEAU REPAIRS TE RAPA ENGAGEMENT WILL START IF GOING SUITS The state of the going at Te Rapa to-morrow will decide whether or not Beau Repaire will fulfil his engagement in the Storey Memorial Handicap. Mr R. T. Reid stated this morning that providing the going was in reasonably good order the colt would take his place in the field but if the track were heavy he would not go into the starter’s hands. VALIMEEX SCRATCHED Valimeen was scratched at 12.30 p.m. today from the President’s Handicap, the open sprint on the first day of the Waikato Racing Club’s summer meeting at Te Rapa tomorrow. Trench Law was scratched from the Beerescourt Handicap at 2.30 p.m. today.
