FAT LAMB GRADING

FARMERS’ UNION PROTEST UNFAVOURABLE COMPARISON (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Tuesday At the monthly meeting of the Matamata Farmers’ Union, Mr F. C. Bush mentioned that unsatisfactory grading of fat lambs as compared with the grading of previous years. Lambs as good as last year’s, he said, had been graded down, and buyers hardly knew* how to pick for grading. He understood the grading was done at the instance of the Marketing Department, and he thought the Minister should be asked the reason. The position had improved since Christmas. Mr IT. Rollett commented on the fact that there were now ten different gradings.

It was decided to ask the Auckland executive of the union to enquire into the system that was in operation before Christmas.

Pleasure was expressed by speakers at the favourable report of the University Senate on the proposal to establish a Veterinary College, and a resolution was passed to support the suggestion through the Auckland executive.
