TE RAPA TRACKS

BEAU REPAIRE GALLOPS RACECAMP HITS OUT FOXSEN IN GOOD HEART (By “Martian”) The course proper was open for fast work at Te Rapa this morning, the flags being fully 70ft out from the rails. Despite recent rain the going was in comparatively good order and several useful efforts were recorded. However, as the majority of local horses competing at the approaching Waikato meeting were racing at the Rotorua fixture over the week-end, the programme was a rather restricted one. Conditions generally were pleasant although a sharp shower was experienced towards the close of the early work. The first to work were Beau Repaire (Hall) and Marshall Hall (Brady), Beau Repaire hitting out over a round and being assisted over the final half-mile by the Hallmark two-year-old. Beau Repaire was under a nice hold throughout and could have improved appreciably on his 2.9$ for the full distance. He is an acceptor for the Storey Memorial Handicap on the first day here and as he has gone on the right way since racing successfully at Trentham recently he appeals as being the hardest to beat in Saturday’s big event. In the event of the track being on the heavy side on Saturday, however, he may rot fulfil his engagement.

Smart Half-mile A smart effort over half-a-mile was credited to Foxsen (Long), who came home in 53£s. Under the conditions this .was a solid effort and indicative of the forward condition of J. F. Tutchen’s charge, svho should strip in splendid heart for racing at the fixture.

Respectful (Gollop) was not bustled to run home from the six furlong barrier in 1.23. He is making good progress and executed his work pleasingly this morning. Maori Song (Hain), who was being eased up over the latter stages, was timed to negotiate six furlongs in 1.29. This member of A. Winder’s team appears to be on the upgrade and he should soon be seen to advantage.

Racecamp (Gollop) and Mio Generate (O. Mclnally), assisted over the early part by Green Label (Cotter) and brought home by Sunny Downs (Watson) from the half-mile traversed a round, Racecamp shading Sunny Downs at the completion of the effort which he ran in 2.7 4-5.

Racecamp has been performing with marked consistency this season, his eleven starts being productive of two wins and four seconds and only twice in his eleven essays has he finished further back than fourth. With 7.0 in the big race on Saturday he is entitled to a measure of support and if a surprise is recorded it is quite on the cards it may come from this direction.

Dark Shadow Beats Kingcraft Dark Shadow (Gollop) finished clear of Kingcraft (Curran) over five furlongs, the final half-mile occupying 57 l-ss.

There was little between Hunto (Winder) and Requiem (Hain) at the conclusion of half-a-mile in 54 l-ss. It was a useful effort for horses of their class and they executed their work pleasingly. Runanga (Amundsen) was worked over a couple of rounds and sprinted down the back and up a portion of the straight. He appears to have taken no harm from racing at Matamata where his form indicated e'U’ly improvement. Torch (Winder) was schooled over four hurdles and gave a careful exhibition of jumping. N. Watson has been engaged to ride Tutor in the Frankton Hurdles on the first day of the Waikato meeting. The successful Opotiki trainer, M. E. Abbott is expected to arrive on Thursday with Scotland, Haile Boy, Merry Vaals, Sir Robin, Raepata and Kenneth Robert.
