EVENING AT RUKUHIA
FAREWELL TO PILOT Friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs J. Boyd, Rukuhia, to farewell Mr Robert Penniket, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. Penniket, who left today for further training in the airforce. Mr Penniket has been a pilot at the Rukuhia aerodrome for the past three years and is the first boy of the district to take up active war duties. The guest of the evening was tha recipient of a wristlet watch presented to him on behalf of the residents by Mr Gorrie. Mr Penniket suitably replied and musical honours were accorded him. The artillery was well represented by Sergeant J. Steele, Lance-Bom-bardier W. J. Steele, Lance-Bombard-A. V. Carryer, Spr. N. L. Carryer and Gunners G. Penniket, E. Houchen, M. Houchen. The evening was spent playing games and competitions, the prizewinners being Miss S. Bremer, Mr T. Bremer and Mrs Penniket. Those present were:—Mr and Mrs J. Penniket, Messrs R. G. and R. Penniket, Mr and Mrs J. Boyd, Mr and Mrs G. Boyd, Mr and Mrs J. J. Raynes, Mr and Mrs I. Raynes, Miss N. Raynes, Mr B. Raynes, Mr and Mrs ier A. V. Carryer, Spr. N. L. Carryer and Gunners G.. Penniket, E. Houchen, M. Houchen. The evening was spent playing games and competitions, the prizewinners being Miss S. Bremer, Mr T. Bremer and Mrs Penniket.
