INCREASED TAXATION (l lilted Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SUVA, Feb. 9 The Fiji Legislative Council this evening passed Bills imposing additional taxation to meet defence expenditure. Income tax for individuals is increased from Is to Is 3d in the pound, and for companies from Is to Is 6d in the pound. The residential tax is increased from 20s a year to 255. The port and Customs service tax on imports is increased irom 2 to 3 per cent. The increases are estimated to produce about £39,000.
