HIRE OF DREDGE
CLEARING OF DRAINS WORK IN TAUPIRI AREA At the monthly meeting of the Taupiri Drainage Board on Thursday, at which the chairman. Mr L. R. W. Reid- presided, Mr R. G. Young, the deputy-chairman reported that he had completed arrangements with the Public Works Department for the hire of a drag-line dredge to clear the Gera drainage outlet. It was expected that the work would occupy three months and an operator, who had to be approved by the department, had been engaged. There was some discussion on the advisability of purchasing a dredge, members pointing out that it could be in full time operation in clearing main outlets and also in maintenance work. Although it was considered that such a dredge would be extremely useful, the question of the purchase of a machine was left over until next meeting. The Public Works Department advised that the Mann-Taylor drain, in the Gordonton area, had been completed and was now handed over to the board for maintenance.
