FIRE ON AIR LINER

FORCED LANDING MADE SKILFUL HANDLING ALL OCCUPANTS ESCAPE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 9, 3.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 9 The Douglas air liner Bungana, bound for Perth with 11 passengers and a crew of three, made a forced landing 200 miles north-west of Melbourne today. The pilot explained that one of the engines caught fire at an altitude of 6000 feet and a landing had to be found. The machine was nearing the ground when one engine dropped out of the plane and the other engine caught lire.

The Bungana was landed safely in a wheat paddock, but crashed through a fence. The machine was damaged but nobody was hurt. The passengers, who were thoroughly alarmed, expressed gratitude for the skill of the pilot in bringing them to safety in sensational circumstances.
