Members of the contingent listening to the radio during the voyage across the Atlantic under naval escort were amused to hear a Zeesen (German) broadcast claim that one of the troopships in the convoy had been sunk. The contingent includes a sniper unit of full-blooded Indians, also a number of men trained under the Empire air training scheme.
