Size of Woolpacks

Standardisation of the size of woolpacks manufactured in or imported into New Zealand is provided for in regulations gazetted last night. Save with the consent of the Minister of Industries and Commerce woolpacks shall have interior measurement 42in in length by 27in in breadth and 27in in depth. Police Cell a Warehouse ! The question of whether a police cell could be regarded as a warehouse was introduced in the Supreme Court, Hamilton, in the case in which three men were charged with breaking and entering the police cell at Taumarunui and also with stealing liquor, the property of the Government. In order to overcome a legal difficulty it was decided to amend the charge to read that the liquor | was stolen from “ a warehouse, to j wit, a police cell.” Counsel for the i defence submitted that a police cell j was not a warehouse, but a place of confinement for prisoners. When summing up Mr Justice Blair said he understood a warehouse to be a place where goods were stored. The evidence in the case showed that the cell in question had been used for the storing of police property, although it had originally been constructed for the confinement of prisoners. In fact, said His Honour, he supposed that a cell had often been a» a dwelling.
