TWO FIRES

HAMILTON BRIGADE’S CALLS OUTBREAK IN RAILWAY SHED Caused by the fusing of an electric oil heater, an outbreak of fire occurred in the districtive locomotive stores shed at the Frankton Junction railway yards last night. A call was received by the Hamilton Fire Brigade at 8.46 p.m. and by the time the two engines arrived the fire had a good hold. Two leads of hose were run out and the prompt action of the brigade prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the shed. The building contained large quantities ol lubricating oil, kerosene, oxygen cylinders and other stores. Railway employees also ran out a length of hose and the blaze was soon confined to one part of the shed. Although the fire started among large quantities of oil, these were only slightly damaged. A call was also received by the brigade earlier in the evening, when shortly after 7 p.m. a fire started in a wash-house in Myrtle Street, Claudelands. The outbreak was only of an incipient nature and there was only slight damage to the contents of the building.
