LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL
AMALGAMATION SCHEME DEFERRED DURING THE WAR (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday An indication that the outbreak oi war had deferred the reintroduction in Parliament of the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, in an address read to a meeting of the Town-planning Board to-day. “ After much struggle, I had prevailed upon my colleagues in the Government that this Bill was not the drastic measure which some people thought it to be,” Mr Parry said, “ and that it really was designed to help us secure a better system of local government than we have. The Government had agreed to its introduction. The outbreak of war deferred it, along with many other measures.”
