MOVING 18 LAND Corsica, the island birthplace of the famous Emperor Napoleon, is reported to have moved its position by nearly 33 feet in the past 100 years. A geological survey party engaged in research into the theory that the earth’s crust is moving horizontally, made this interesting discovery but a witty Italian journalist suggests that the island, which is moving eastward, away from France, its owners, towards Italy, is endeavouring to display its desire to become an Italian possession. SINGING RATS Rats that sing like canaries and hop like rabbits are the latest arrivals to the Rodent House at the London Zoo. They are called Hutias, and Lord Moyne brought back six specimens from Trinidad. The males, known as the Bachelor Quarter, are in one of tiie big cages, while two others, a male and female, are in a smaller cage. The bachelors get on very well if they separate to the four corners of the cage, but once they ail get in the middle there is a light and the keeper has to stop them.
