RED CROSS SOCIETY CLASSES OF INSTRUCTION (Special to Times. TE AWAMUTU, Friday Two meetings were addressed by Mr Ira J. Bridger, the Dominion Organiser of the Red Cross Society of New Zealand, at Te Awamutu yesterday. There were excellent attendances and proceedings were most enthusiastic. Mrs C. G. Downes presided. Mr Bridger outlined the progress made by the society and the great enthusiasm which existed now that the state of emergency had arisen, lie particularly stressed the international character of the organisation. Until it was definitely known that men from New Zealand were to go overseas, he could indicate what work the society in Te Awamutu could most usefully do. He advocated that a subcentre should be constituted at Te Awamutu and work under the Hamilton centre. Mr Briefer outlined the society's instruction in air raid precaution, and 00 or more persons indicated their willingness to attend a course if one was arranged. A start will be made next Tuesday night with first aid, when the St. John Ambulance will conduct a class. There are to date 11 members for the home nursing course which will be conducted by the Red Cross Society. The air raid precaution class will begin when an instructor is available. Macky, read the j report which he had previously pre- : sen ted to the council in which he I pointed out that to improve supply for j higher level farms the size of the ; mains would have to be increased. The extra cost was estimated at £SOO, but a firm price could not be given now. His conclusion was that the area should not be enlarged. A general discussion followed and it was decided that there should he no enlargement of the reticulation. It was decided also to recommend the j council to revert to the old interest rate so that a fund could be created for the purpose of renewals.
