AMERICA AND ARGENTINE SERIOUS EFFECT ON AUSTRALIA MEETING FOREIGN COMPETITION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 24, 3.55 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 23 The hopes of a trade pact between Australia and America have waned further with the announcement by Mr Sumner Welles, acting-Secretary of State, that the United States is negotiating a reciprocal treaty with the Argentine. Tile concessions which the United States is considering granting cover items similar to Australian exports—namely, wool, casein, tallow, meat extract., cheese, corn, poultry. eggs, Mr Welles’commented that certain European countries are developing trade with the Argentine at the expense of the United States.
