COST BURDEN

ACTION BV FARMERS INVITATION TO MINISTER CONFERENCE IN HAMILTON Concern at the continued rising costs for farmers was expressed at a meeting of the South Auckland Dairy Association In Hamilton yesterday, when it was decided to write to the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, inviting him to come to Hamilton to discuss with the farmers of the district the position that has arisen, especially with regard to increased transport costs. All members agreed that a conference with the Minister was necessary as the increasing costs were rapidly becoming too big a hurdle for the farmers. No date for the meeting was fixed, it being decided to invite the Minister to name a date which would suit him, although the urgency of the question will also be pointed out to him. Baling Wire Unprocurable Mr W. Darrall, chairman of directors of the Tatua Co-operative Dairy Company, said that liis company was finding extreme difficulty in placing orders for necessary importations for farmers. The farmers in his territory had decided to bale their hay and lie had attempted to purchase a quantity of baling wire. However, the lirm the company usually dealt through refused to take the order or even quote owing to the difficulty of obtaining sterling funds to pay for the goods. The position would later become very serious if no baling wire could be secured, added Mr Darrall.
