CLUB CELEBRATES

THOUSANDTH MEMBER NATIONAL PARTY SUPPORTERS SERVICE TO COMMUNITY There was enthusiasm and good humour on Saturday night at a gathering of National Party supporters at ' the National Club, to celebrate the seI curing of 1000 members by the club. Formed early this year and officially opened by the Leader of the Party, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, on March 25, the club has rapidly grown, and gained its first objective, namely 1000 members. This was made possible by the work done by a keen i committee, and by the enthusiastic I support received for the project . throughout the district. The chairman of the South Auckland Division, Mr A. Gordon, presided, and welcomed those present. He re--1 erred to the fact that the club was performing a useful service in the community and congratulated the sponsors of the scheme. Mr W. S. Goosman, M.P. for Waikato, gave a brief and humorous address, mostly dealing with Parliament itself, and the impressions gained by a new member. Mr A. W. Grant, candidate for tho Hamilton electorate at the last election. spoke on the developments in the political situation since. He emphasised Ihe fact that much that was happening now had been foretold by National Party speakers. Work for Women The woman speaker for the evening was Mrs Y. E. Wilson, from the Bay of Plenty Electorate. Mrs Wilson said there was great work for the women to do in the helping the younger generation in the problems which they had to face in the future. She referred to the enthusiasm in the Bay of Plenty Electorate, and expressed her pleasure at being able to come to Hamilton and meet friends from all over the division. The National Party candidate at the last election for the., Bay of Plenty Electorate, Mr W. Sullivan, congratulated the club and its committee on the magnificent showing that it had made, and referred to the harmony which existed at all time between headquarters in Hamilton, and the officials in the various electorates. A report on the Dominion Conference and appreciation of the leadership of the Hon. Adam Hamilton was made by Mr F. J. Short, chairman of the Bay of Plenty Electorate. The Leader of the Party, he said, was a man whom members of the Party in Parliament and out of Parliament respected and trusted. Confidence in Leader Mr W. C. Kennedy proposed a vote of thanks and confidence in the lion. Adam Hamilton as Leader of the Parly, 1 and congratulations to the National, Party members of Parliament, on their excellent show in the House. This was carried with acclamation. In a humorous speech, Mr A. Sutherland gave some of his impressions and experiences during the last election campaign. Mr A. W. Moore, vice-chairman of the club, thanked members of the committee and other helpers for the work done by them in forming the club and pointed out that a special room for men was now available and that the main hall had been entirely renovated. Several enjoyable items were Given during the evening.
