Bromwich, proved themselves the world's best doubles pair today, when they overwhelmed a. L. Riggs and E. T. Cooke, ol America, tiie Wimbledon champion*, o—l, 6—4, 6—O, in the semi-fiual* of the American national doubles event. Tiie Americans were routed in 54 minutes of sensational play. Quist and Bromwich were to have met J. B. Crawford and il. Hopinan tomorrow but tiie match has been postponed until Monday owing to rain, it is the first all-foreign fitial in the history of the championship. The Australian captain, H. Hopman, told the Associated Press that he believes someone will eventually pair with Higgs, probably Mako, as W. Pate, the American captain, is still a great believer in Mako s ability. “On present form, and Bromwich can be even better* the Australians should win the Davis Cup doubles. Cause of Americans’ Defeat The Americans' defeat was due to their inability to keep the Australian* away from the net. They vaiuly tried every tactic evolved l'or that purpose. Lobhing failed and they could not control their smashes witli any degree of aceuracy. charging the net Quist piled up an amazing total of 25 placements in 23 games. The Australian*' teamwork was superb. Their attacking plan was first to place a volley down the centre and draw their opponents in and then to angle severe volleys at the first opening. Misses K. Stammers and F. Janies (Britain, entered the final of the women's doubles, and will meet Miss A. Marble aud Mrs P. Fabyan. Tiie former pair beat Miss 11. Jacobs and Miss Dorothy Workman, 6—i, 6—2. H. Hopman and Miss Marble entered the combined doubles final with a o—o, 6—4 win over Rifti* and Miss Stammers. Their opponents iii the final will be Cooke and Mr* Fabyaa.
