PARENTS’ DAY FUNCTION PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The annual parents’ day function of the Te Kowhai School was held last Thursday. There was a splendid attendance. The school classrooms were decorated and examples of the pupils’ work were on display. Visitors were welcomed by the head teacher, Mr J. B. Hostick. Following an inspection of the children’s work the following programme was rendered by the pupils;—Action song, “ Cock-a-Doodle Do,” primers; recitation, “ Tale of a Tub,” Barry Cronin; short play, “The Elves and the Shoemaker,” Standards 2 and 3; choral speaking, Standard 4; song, “Up the Wooded Hill to Bedfordshire,” Ray Cronin; short play, “Sing a Song of Sixpence,” Standards 2 and 3: action song, “ The Old Mill Wheel,” primers; historical play, “Florence Nightingale,” senior girls. At the conclusion of the programme the chairman of the committee, Mr R. E. Harris, presented swimming certificates, Agricultural Club certificates and athletic certificates won by pupils. Trophies won at-the school tennis tournament, held last March, were presented by the president of the Te Kowhai Tennis Club, Mr 11. Bennett, who congratulated the pupils on their splendid progress in the game.
Afternoon tea. served by the senior pupils, brought an enjoyable afternoon to a close.
