GREAT PUTTING
MURRAY’S GOOD ROUND OPEN DAY AT ST. ANDREWS A. E. BROWN LEADS AMATEURS Excellent putting and chipping by A. Murray, in his first round, was the feature of the open day at £t. Andrews Coll' Links yesterday, when amateurs and professionals competed in various competitions. A. E. Browne, of Auckland, headed the amateurs, with R. H. Glading next, while A. Murray won the professional event with J. Galloway runner-up. The best round of the day was Murray's 71 in the morning. He played very steady golf on the way out and reached the turn in par figures—3B. It was on the way home that he produced some great shots. At the 13th he was not on the green with his second but holed a great chip of 30 yards for a three. He holed several long putts on the homeward journey. At the 14th he was bunkered with his tee shot but chipped out well to sink a lift putt, and at the 15th he again chipped splendidly for hole out. At the 16th a good wood was followed with a brilliant spoon shot and he holed a 30ft. putt for an eagle 3. A five-feet putt gave him another 3 at the 17th, but he took a 5 on the last hole to finish with 71. Detailed Results * The following are the regults:— 36-hole Gross. —Amateurs: A. E.
