DISCUSSIONS TO BE DROPPED INTERESTS OF OTHER POWERS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 19, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, August 18 The Government has decided that no useful result can be obtained by pursuing the discussions regarding the Chinese silver and national currency questions on a British-Japanese basis. If there are to be further discussions on these economic proposals arrangements must be made to take into account the views of interested third parties. During the course of the Tokio discussions Britain kept other interested Powers fully informed of the trend of the talks, but the present decision has been reached by Britain alone. Sir Robert Craigie has communicated the decision to Mr Kato. TOKIO, August 18 Immediately after learning Britain’s decision in reference to currency discussions Mr Kato conferred with Mr Arita and then with members of the General Staff. JAPANESE BOMBERS FLIGHT OYER BRITISH WATERS VIGOROUS PROTEST PREPARED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) HONGKONG,, August 18 Fifteen Japanese bombers flew over British territorial waters in the vicinity ol' Stanley Peninsula. The Hongkong Island shore batteries did not lire at them, but a vigorous protest is being prepared. The Japanese forces overnight completed their occupation of the Chinese area along tiie entire border of the Hongkong territory. The Japanese naval spokesman said that Japan did not intend to blockade Hongkong, which was unnecessary. Japan did not intend to bring about fresh international complications with a friendly Power. The Army aimed to put down the irregular forces in Kwangtung and not the British-leased territory at Kowloon. 11. M. gunboats Cicala and Moth have taken up stations on each side ol' the Kowloon Peninsula. A message from Tientsin says a number of Britisli people have received letters from tiie Chinese Youth Association threatening them with death unless they leave China.
