WORK FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN S'CII i 0 L ARSI lIP REG OMMENDED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The annual meeting of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society was presided over by Mr J. M. A. llott, of Wellington. Delegates were present from all branches except Auckland, whose representatives are on the limited express, which was delayed by slips on the main trunk line. The meeting was to have been opened by the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, but owing to official duties he was unable to attend. The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, congratulated the society oil the work it was doing for the cripples of New Zealand, and commended a remit suggesting that a scholarship should be founded upon the Nuflield Trust of up to £IOOO for the purpose of employing a young doctor to survey the work of the society throughout New Zealand, with particular regard to the prevention of crippling diseases, causes of disability, methods of treatment, after care and placement. The proposal had the whole-hearted support of the Health Department, and the society should approach the Medical Research Council for its assistance. A Wellington remit recommended an appeal to the New Zealand executive to make £IO,OUO available for special orthopaedic hospital equipment. Dr. Watt opposed this, as being a duty oil hospitals for which they are alerady provided, and discussion was deferred. Viscountess Galway was elected Patroness and Sir Charles Norwood president.
