BRIDGE CARRIED AWAY
FLOODING NEAR WANGANUI MANY ROADS BLOCKED (By Telegram.—Press Association) WANGANUI, Thursday Heavy rain fell throughout the district all night and is continuing. At Pipiriki the Wanganui River had risen 13 feet at noon and is still rising. The Wangaehu River is in high flood, much debris coming down. Half of the temporary bridge built near the site of the railway bridge to be built in connection with the Denlair deviation has been carried away. A public works gang is salvaging all possible. The railway line between Marton and Rata is under water through a slip on the Wangaehu bank. The Wanganui-'Raetihi road is blocked and also the roads from Wanganui to Pipiriki and Wanganui to Mangamahu. The Awahuri-Marton road is also blocked.
