MUNICIPAL BAND SERVICE MEDALS PRESENTED (Special to Times.) TE AROMA. Thursday. The annual report submitted at the general meeting of the Te Aroha Municipal Band stated there was a credit balance of £73 3s id at the end or the financial year, lhe receipts were increased by donations, and under this heading special thanks were tendered to the Te Aroha Nigger Minstrels, the M.1.1.U.0.F Lodge and Te Aroha Rugby Union. In August a solo competition for junior members was held. A medal presented by Mr Kennedy was won by S. Toms, K. Hall being a close second. A cup Tor competition by quartettes recruited from among the bandsmen has L)c» presented by Messrs. E. Bygrave and B. Cochrane. Manson and C. Lawrence; business committee, Messrs. H. L. Thornton, F. Hall and H. Blackford. Medals for five years’ service were presented by the Mayor, Mr H. Coulter, to Bandsman W. Crawford, F. Toms, C. Lawrence and E. Devery, and long-service bars to Bandsmen ||. Powell, Bandsmen B. Cochrane, G. Manson, M. Blackford and Gifford. Tlie medal for the best attendance during the year was won by Bandsman C. Lawrence. SCRIPTURE UNION QUARTERLY RALLY HELD There was an attendance or 20 0 at the quarterly rally or the Te Aroha branch of the scripture Union. The object or the gathering was to stimulate interest in the union and to provide an opportunity for members to become acquainted. Dr. S. T. Martin, secretary to the branch, presided. An address on “ The Value or the Bible For To-day ” was given by the Rev. l. A. Brooks, and during the evening the following items were given:—Selections by the Orchestra; solo, Mr Qualtrough; tableaux, Te Aroha West Sunday school girls; duets, Miss Jones and Mr H. McGregor (Morrinsville) and Messrs. F. Brown and E. Symons; quartet, Masters K. and V. Bowen, and Messrs- E. Bowen and A. Hendry; cornet solo, Mr T. N. Johns.
