Importation of Quail With the object of improving the strain of Californian quail in the Auck land area, the Auckland Acclimatisation Society has secured permission to import 200 birds from Norfolk Island. At present in the society's territory, states the annual report. Just published, the birds are tending to weedy growth and clutches of eei-’> 'are small, seldom reaching double figures. With fresh blood, it is expected that breeding will improve and ihe island birds arc to be shipped by the first direct steamer.
