SMALLER BLOOMS REMARKS BY JUDGE ATTRACTIVE NEW VARIETIES •The standard of the blooms display ed ad shows nowadays is by no means as good as those grown 30 years ago,” said Mr A. J. Shailer, of Palmerston North, commenting on the standard of the chrysanthemum exhibits. “The specimens here to-day art by no means as big as some I have seen in past years. Some of the best I have seen measured 10 inches through and 18 inches from tip to fip. I should say the champion of champions here -would measure no more than eight inches through. No doebt blights and dry weather conditions have tended to reduce the jub of blooms. ’ Beferring to the dahlias Mr Shailer said the specimens were good for a tete show. The judge was impressed with the n&m varieties of chrysanthemum, particularly the Japanese decorative specimens. The pom-pom exhibits 'were also very fine.
